Dr. Katy Irani

Dr. Katayun Irani, an expert in minimally invasive robotic surgery and an accomplished bariatric/general surgeon,  is passionate about improving the lives of her patients. With over 20 years of experience and affiliations with leading hospitals, she brings a wealth of knowledge and a caring touch to every patient interaction.  She believes a strong doctor-patient relationship is vital and is dedicated to providing compassionate and comprehensive care tailored to each patient's wellness journey.  She has played pivotal roles in building weight loss programs.  She offers a caring, patient-centered approach, prioritizing patients and empowering them through their care.

 

Dr. Irani obtained her medical degree from UTSW in Dallas, one of the top 15 medical schools in the country.   She completed her surgical residency at NYU medical center and a fellowship at Legacy Good Samaritan hospital in Portland, Oregon.   Her commitment to staying in the forefront of medical advancements has led her to pursue continuous advancements in robotic surgery, obesity medicine, endoscopy, and in reflux and foregut surgery.  

 

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Irani is actively involved in the SAGES, ASMBS, ACS, and the Obesity Society.  She regularly participates in conferences, workshops and seminars.  

Outside of her professional endeavors, Dr. Irani loves spending time with her son,  practicing yoga, dancing, singing, hiking, skiing and biking. She is committed to promoting wellness not only within the practice but throughout the community.

1994-1998

Cornell University

Bachelor of Arts

Major: Biology

Dr. Irani graduated Suma Cum Laude with her Bachelor of Arts at Cornell University with a major in Biology and a minor in Biochemistry.  During her time in undergrad she did scientific research and volunteered in the medical field

1998-2002

UTSW Medical School

Medical 

Dr. Irani attended UTSW, one of the top 15 medical schools in the country.  She graduated in the top 15% of her class and proceeded with a surgical residency at NYU medical center

2002-2009

New York University Medical School

Dr. Irani completed her general surgery residency at the New York University Medical Center. During her residency, she participated in a bariatric surgery rotation, which inspired her profound interest in the field. Observing patients who had persistently struggled with weight loss achieve success through surgical intervention was both professionally satisfying and personally fulfilling.

2005-2007

Harvard Medical School

Dr. Irani performed research at the Center for Tissue Engineering and Regenerative medicine.  She participated in liver research and published 2 papers and 3 posters
